SolarBioproducts Ruhr brings the laboratory into focus. What are microorganisms and where can we find them? How can enzymes facilitate our daily life? And how much energy does an algae have?
MINT-classes (the English equivalent to MINT is STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
Together with the zdi-network MINT Herne, SolarBioproducts Ruhr visits school classes from grade 8 to upper stage in Herne and Bochum and experiments with them within the scope of “microorganisms – our everyday companions”. Here, the pupils may test the cleanness of keyboards, mobiles etc. by means of the so-called “Abklatschtest”, may examine the structure of microalgae through a microscope, investigate the effect of antibiotics and even more.
Do you also want to provide a project course about “microorganisms” at your school? Then please do not hesitate to contact us or the zdi-network MINT Herne.
SolarBioproducts Ruhr also supports individual school projects, like for example the project course Natural Science of the Schiller-School in Bochum, which was promoted by the zdi-network IST.Bochum.NRW. Sbp has a broad portfolio: supervising experiments, researching relevant publications, giving advice to experiments, assisting with the evaluation of results etc. That are just a few examples, how Sbp can support.
On a regular basis SolarBioproducts Ruhr presents discoveries of the biotechnology research to the interested public. At events like the ScienceNight Ruhr, which was held out for the first time also in Herne in 2018, the environmental day in Herne and also the Science Summer in Essen, visitors may try laboratory equipment, test their knowledge about algae and biotechnology, inform themselves about biotechnological research topics and much more. Let yourself be surprised.
Sbp carried out an experiment for hobby chefs – an algae cooking class! In cooperation with the Zurbrüggen cooking class in Herne dished with micro- and macroalgae were cooked and tasted. Additionally, the attendees of the course got fascinating information from the world of algae. This extraordinary concept aroused huge enthusiasm.
